The School of Geology of the Faculty of Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), with the School of Biology of the Faculty of Sciences of AUTH, the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the Faculty of Sciences of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), the Department of Geology of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Patras (P.U.), and the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean (AeU), organize and operate from the academic year 2018-2019 an Interinstitutional Master Program in Paleontology-Geobiology.

The Program awards a Master’s Degree in the field of “Palaeontology-Geobiology” in two directions of specialization:

(a) Macropalaeontology; and

(b) Micropalaeontology-Biostratigraphy

 The duration for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma of Studies is set at three (3) semesters – 90 ECTS

The aim of the Program is to provide specialized knowledge at postgraduate level in the science of Palaeontology and its applications in the fields of evolution, phylogeny, (paleo)ecology, (paleo)environment, (paleo)biogeography, mineral resources research, geobiology and geoconservation. The MSc aims to promote knowledge, develop research and train qualified scientists, through the effective combination of teaching, research and application.

FAQ

The Master’s Program accepts applicants who hold bachelor’s degrees from departments of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Greece and equivalent institutions abroad, specifically from the Departments of Geology and Biology within the Schools of Natural Sciences, as well as graduates of other departments who are deemed- on a case-by-case basis and based on the relevance of their general and specific field of study, as evidenced by their Diploma Supplement and curriculum vitae- to meet the admission criteria for the Master’s Program.

 

The duration of the program is set at three (3) academic semesters, during which students must earn 60 ECTS credits by successfully completing a series of required and elective courses (1st and 2nd semesters) and 30 ECTS credits by completing a Master’s Thesis (3rd semester).

 

 

Tuition fees for the Master’s program are set at 1,000 euros, payable in 2 or 3 installments. Students facing financial hardship are eligible to apply for a tuition waiver in accordance with the provisions of the Greek law.

Successful applicants are enrolled at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and receive all the benefits and support provided by the institution.

The Macropaleontology track is offered at the facilities of the Division of Tectonics, Historical & Applied Geology within the Schol of Geology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The Micropaleontology-Biostratigraphy track is conducted at the facilities of the Division of Historical Geology & Paleontology of the Department of Geology & Geoenvironment at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
